Kia unveiled Niro EV Concept at CES

AT CES 2018 Kia showcased the Niro EV Concept in Las Vegas. The preview of compact CUV Niro EV Concept is showcasing the styling and future technology.

The Niro EV features updated bodywork from current production versions of the Niro, and the radiator grille has been replaced with an attractive display panel because radiator grille is not required for an EV. The production version of the Niro EV concept comes with same powertrain as sister firm Hyundai’s electric vehicle Ioniq.

The Niro EV concept comes with an electric engine which generates max power of 204hp. Lithium-polymer battery of 64kWh is used as a power source and claims driving range of 383km.

According to the Kia’s vice-chairman Woong Chul Yang, The production machine would come with a choice of two battery sizes – the 64kWh and a smaller, likely 32kWh, unit.

The Niro concept EV is equipped with an Active Pedestrian Warning System which can detect cyclists or pedestrians crossing in front of the car. As soon as the warning system will detect cyclists or pedestrians, it will send a warning alert. The car is also equipped with a new Human Machine Interface (HMI), heating systems and a infotainment system controlled by a swiping area on the bottom of the steering wheel. Once the driver will log in with the HMI through voice and facial recognition system, car will disable key functions if it does not identify the driver.

The Niro concept EV is also equipped with a sound separation control system, which uses noise cancelling technology and eight headrest mounted speakers that allows front and rear passengers to listen to different music at the same time. The car is also equipped with a machine enabled to connect with 5g network.The whole demonstration displayed with a cockpit on Kia’s stand at CES with a 5G data link to the firm’s base in Seoul, Korea.

Kia has decided to begin testing level four autonomous vehicles in smart cities in 2021. The Kia has plane to offer 16 electrified cars by 2025, as part of a new future strategy.
