Maruti Suzuki has launched the 2025 WagonR in India, and while it may look identical to the outgoing model, this update brings a significant change in the safety department. Yes, the crowd-favourite tall-boy hatchback now gets 6 airbags as standard across all variants. This makes the WagonR one of the most affordable cars in India to offer this level of safety, which is a much-needed upgrade considering the increasing awareness around car safety.
The updated WagonR is priced from ₹5.64 lakh (ex-showroom) for the base LXi MT and goes up to ₹7.47 lakh (ex-showroom) for the top-end ZXi+ AGS variant. Compared to the previous model, prices have increased by roughly ₹13,000, depending on the variant, which is a fair trade-off for the added safety features.
Here is the full variant-wise pricing as seen in the updated list:
Variant | Price (Ex-Showroom) |
---|---|
LXi MT | ₹5,64,500 |
VXi MT | ₹6,05,000 |
VXi AGS | ₹6,52,000 |
ZXi MT | ₹6,33,000 |
ZXi AGS | ₹6,80,000 |
ZXi+ MT | ₹6,88,500 |
ZXi+ AGS | ₹7,35,500 |
LXi CNG | ₹6,59,500 |
VXi CNG | ₹7,00,000 |
The biggest highlight of this update is that all variants of the WagonR now come with 6 airbags as standard—this includes dual front airbags, side airbags, and curtain airbags. The additional units are placed on the seat sides and B-pillars, offering better protection for all passengers in the event of a crash.
With this, Maruti is continuing its mission to equip more of its mass-market cars with enhanced safety kits. Models like the Alto K10, Celerio, Eeco, and even Grand Vitara have already made this shift.
In addition to 6 airbags, the 2025 WagonR also comes with:
These updates help the WagonR stand stronger against rivals like Tata Tiago, Citroën C3, and even its sibling, the Celerio.
Maruti Suzuki has kept everything else unchanged. There are no cosmetic changes, no new features, and no new colour options. You still get the same tall-boy stance and dual-tone interior layout.
The equipment list remains familiar with:
The car continues to offer a spacious cabin and large boot space, especially in non-CNG variants.
Mechanically, the WagonR stays the same but is now BS6 Phase 2 (OBD-2B) compliant.
You still get two petrol engine options:
The smaller engine is also offered with a CNG option (with slightly lower output), and depending on the variant, you get either a 5-speed manual or 5-speed AGS (Auto Gear Shift).
Here is a quick look at the engine details (as per attached image):
Engine | Power | Torque | Gearbox Options |
---|---|---|---|
1.0L NA Petrol | 65 bhp | 89 Nm | 5MT / AGS |
1.2L NA Petrol | 88 bhp | 113 Nm | 5MT / AGS |
1.0L CNG | 56 bhp (approx.) | 82 Nm | 5MT |
The Maruti WagonR has always been about practicality, space, and value for money. With this update, it now becomes a more responsible choice for buyers who are safety-conscious but budget-bound. By adding 6 airbags without increasing prices drastically, Maruti has made the WagonR an even stronger contender in its segment.
While the lack of new features or design updates might feel underwhelming to some, for the core WagonR customer, this move is a big win.
