Mahindra has launched the XUV 3XO ZNG in India, introducing a turbocharged CNG powertrain to its compact SUV lineup. The new variant combines the performance of a turbocharged engine with the lower running costs of CNG.

The Mahindra XUV 3XO ZNG starts at Rs 9.99 lakh (ex-showroom) and is available in four variants. It uses a 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol-CNG engine that produces 111 PS of power and 200 Nm of torque. The SUV also gets an underfloor twin-cylinder CNG setup to preserve usable boot space.

Mahindra XUV 3XO ZNG Price and Variants

Mahindra is offering the XUV 3XO ZNG in four variants: MX Edge, RevX Edge (O), AX5 and RevX A. Prices start at Rs 9.99 lakh and go up to Rs 12.27 lakh (ex-showroom).

Here are the variant-wise prices:

VariantTurbo Petrol-CNGTurbo Petrol
MX EdgeRs 9.99 lakhNot available
RevX Edge (O)Rs 10.79 lakhRs 9.99 lakh
AX5Rs 11.19 lakhRs 10 lakh
RevX ARs 12.27 lakhRs 11.27 lakh

All prices are ex-showroom.

The RevX A is the top-spec CNG variant. Depending on the variant, the CNG version costs Rs 80,000 to Rs 1.19 lakh more than the corresponding turbo-petrol model.

Mahindra XUV 3XO ZNG Engine and Performance

The biggest highlight of the XUV 3XO ZNG is its 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol-CNG engine. It produces 111 PS of power and 200 Nm of torque, making it one of the most powerful CNG-powered SUVs in its segment.

The engine is paired with a 6-speed manual gearbox. Mahindra claims a fuel efficiency of 24.7 km/kg, which could make the SUV an option for buyers looking for a balance between performance and running costs.

Here are the engine specifications:

SpecificationDetails
Engine1.2-litre turbo petrol-CNG
Maximum power111 PS
Maximum torque200 Nm
Transmission6-speed manual
Claimed fuel efficiency24.7 km/kg
0-60 kmph4.9 seconds
0-100 kmph11.8 seconds

Mahindra claims that the XUV 3XO ZNG can accelerate from 0 to 60 kmph in 4.9 seconds and reach 100 kmph in 11.8 seconds while running on CNG.

The SUV also gets real-time fuel efficiency displays for both petrol and CNG, allowing drivers to monitor fuel consumption.

Underfloor CNG Cylinder Setup and Boot Space

Another key feature of the XUV 3XO ZNG is its underfloor twin-cylinder CNG setup. Unlike conventional CNG cars, where the cylinder takes up a significant portion of the boot, this arrangement helps maintain a flat loading floor.

The SUV offers 270 litres of usable boot space with the CNG setup. The flat floor, which sits level with the loading lip, should also make loading and unloading luggage easier.

However, the available boot space remains limited compared to what some buyers may expect from an SUV. The regular petrol-powered XUV 3XO also has a relatively small boot for its segment, making luggage capacity an important consideration for buyers.

Features and Safety

The Mahindra XUV 3XO ZNG retains several features available in the regular model. Depending on the variant, the equipment includes a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a 10.25-inch digital driver’s display and dual-zone climate control.

Other features include wireless phone charging, a panoramic sunroof, LED headlamps, LED daytime running lights and a height-adjustable driver’s seat. The digital driver’s display also provides real-time CNG fuel efficiency information.

In terms of safety, the SUV gets six airbags, electronic stability control, a tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS), rear parking sensors and a reverse parking camera. Additional equipment includes automatic headlamps, rain-sensing wipers, keyless entry and go, and ISOFIX child seat mounts.

The Mahindra XUV 3XO has received a 5-star safety rating in Bharat NCAP crash tests.

Mahindra XUV 3XO ZNG Rivals

The Mahindra XUV 3XO ZNG competes with compact SUVs such as the Tata Nexon, Maruti Suzuki Brezza, Maruti Suzuki Fronx and Tata Punch, all of which offer factory-fitted CNG options.

It also competes in the broader compact SUV segment with models such as the Kia Sonet, Hyundai Venue, Renault Kiger, Nissan Magnite, Toyota Urban Cruiser Taisor and Kia Syros.
