MG Motor has launched a new top-end variant of its electric MPV, the MG Windsor EV Pro. With a starting price of ₹17.49 lakh (introductory, for the first 8,000 bookings), the Pro version sits above the regular Windsor EV and brings some meaningful upgrades. For those who choose MG’s Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) option, the price drops to ₹12.49 lakh, but in that case, the battery is not owned, and users pay monthly based on usage. Bookings are scheduled to begin on 8 May.
The biggest update is the larger 52.9kWh battery, which boosts the claimed range to 449 km, a significant jump from the standard model’s 38kWh battery with a 332 km ARAI-tested range. In real-world conditions, the regular Windsor EV gave around 308 km during tests, so we can expect the Pro version to deliver a more practical range of over 400 km.
Power output remains the same at 136hp and 200Nm, and the car still runs on a front-wheel-drive layout. MG has not tweaked the motor, which is fine for daily city driving and family use.
Charging is also efficient, the 7.4kW AC charger takes around 9.5 hours for a full charge, while the 60kW DC fast charger can top up from 20% to 80% in just 50 minutes. This makes the Pro version not only more practical but also more convenient.
On the outside, the changes are minimal, just a new set of 18-inch alloy wheels similar to the ones on the MG Hector. MG has also introduced three new colours: Celadon Blue, Glaze Red, and Aurora Silver. The rest of the exterior remains the same, with the sleek connected LED bars, flush door handles, and the MPV-meets-hatchback design.
Inside, the interior gets a beige makeover, replacing the earlier all-black look. The cabin feels more airy and premium. But it is not just the colour, MG has added advanced features like:
The only trade-off is a slightly smaller boot space, now 579 litres compared to 604 litres in the standard variant, likely because of the bigger battery.
The MG Windsor EV Pro now poses stronger competition to electric SUVs like the Tata Nexon EV (45kWh version), Hyundai Creta EV (upcoming), and the Mahindra XUV400. While the Windsor may not look as SUV-like, it offers more space, higher range, and better features in the same price band.
In fact, the Nexon EV (LR) offers 465 km ARAI range with a similar-sized battery, but misses out on features like V2V charging and powered tailgate. The Mahindra XUV400 offers good driving dynamics, but its interior feels dated compared to MG’s more premium cabin.
The Windsor EV Pro is a smart upgrade. For an additional cost, you get more range, more features, and better practicality. While it still keeps the same powertrain, the focus here is clearly on comfort, usability, and tech, all the things that matter most in a family EV.
For buyers looking for a modern, long-range electric car under ₹20 lakh, the Windsor EV Pro is now one of the strongest options in the segment. And if you do not want to pay upfront for the battery, MG’s BaaS model brings the entry cost down, making EV ownership more flexible.
