Volkswagen India has officially launched the new Tiguan R-Line in the Indian market at an ex-showroom price of ₹49 lakh. This new model is the first variant of the next-generation Tiguan to arrive in India after its global debut in 2023. Unlike its predecessor, which was priced at ₹38.17 lakh, the new Tiguan R-Line comes at a premium and is being brought to India as a completely built-up unit (CBU).

In terms of design, the new Tiguan R-Line follows Volkswagen’s latest styling direction. It has a sleeker and more streamlined look compared to the previous model. The front end features an enclosed grille and sharp projector headlamps that give it a modern and bold appearance. The front bumper houses a large air dam that enhances its sporty look. On the sides, the SUV gets stylish alloy wheels, and at the rear, it comes with a connected LED tail lamp design that adds a touch of sophistication. Volkswagen is offering the SUV in six eye-catching exterior colour options, including Persimmon Red, Nightshade Blue, Grenadilla Black, Onyx White Mother of Pearl, Cipressino Green, and Oyster Silver.

Inside the cabin, the Tiguan R-Line follows a clean and minimalistic layout with fewer physical buttons. The dashboard is dominated by a large 15.1-inch free-standing touchscreen that handles most of the in-car controls. Gloss black inserts with unique patterns and ambient backlighting give the cabin a premium feel. The gear selector has been moved to the steering column, and the centre console now features a rotary controller with a built-in touch display. This controller allows the driver to easily adjust settings related to the chassis, powertrain, and ambient lighting.

Volkswagen has loaded the new Tiguan R-Line with plenty of features to make it a comfortable and safe SUV. It comes with a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, multi-zone climate control, powered front seats, and heated front seats. There is also a heated steering wheel and a tyre pressure monitoring system. One of the most impressive aspects of the SUV is the safety package. The Tiguan R-Line includes 9 airbags and a Level 2 Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) with 21 safety functions. It also features Dynamic Chassis Control with adaptive dampers, which is being offered for the first time on this model in India.

Under the hood, the Tiguan R-Line is powered by a 2.0-litre TSI turbocharged petrol engine. This engine is paired with a 7-speed DSG (dual-clutch automatic) transmission. The SUV also comes with Volkswagen’s 4Motion all-wheel-drive system as standard. The engine produces 201 bhp and 320 Nm of torque, and Volkswagen claims that it can deliver a fuel efficiency of 12.58 km per litre.

With its premium pricing, the Volkswagen Tiguan R-Line will compete with entry-level luxury SUVs in India such as the Audi Q3, BMW X1, and Mercedes-Benz GLA. It will also face competition from the upcoming new-generation Skoda Kodiaq, which is expected to launch soon.
