Tata Motors has officially unveiled the 2025 Tata Harrier and Tata Safari with a new petrol engine option. Until now, both SUVs were sold only with a diesel engine. With this update, buyers can now choose between petrol and diesel powertrains. Tata has also added two new variants to the lineup, along with fresh design and feature updates.

The Tata Harrier gets a new Fearless Ultra variant, while the Tata Safari receives the Accomplished Ultra variant. Both of these new trims are also offered in special Red Dark editions. Tata Motors has not announced the prices of the petrol variants yet.

In terms of design, the updates are subtle, and the overall look of both SUVs remains unchanged. The Tata Harrier now comes with a new red exterior shade called Nitro Crimson. The Tata Safari gets a different red shade named Carnelian Red. These new colours add a fresh touch to the existing design.

There are changes inside the cabin as well. The Tata Harrier now offers a new Oyster White and Titan Brown interior theme. It also features a dual-tone Titan wood finish on the dashboard. The Tata Safari gets a red-themed interior with leatherette upholstery and a steel black-finished dashboard. These updates give both SUVs a more premium feel.

The biggest update is under the hood. Both the Harrier and Safari now come with a new 1.5-litre TGDI turbo-petrol engine. This engine was first seen in the Tata Sierra but has been tuned differently for these SUVs. The petrol engine produces 170 PS of power and 280 Nm of torque. It is offered with both a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed torque converter automatic gearbox.

The existing 2.0-litre diesel engine continues unchanged. It also produces 170 PS of power but delivers a higher torque output of 350 Nm. The diesel engine is available with both manual and automatic transmission options. An interesting point to note is that the petrol engine is available with a manual gearbox in the Harrier and Safari, unlike the Sierra, where it is offered only with an automatic.

Both SUVs also receive several new features. A major highlight is the new 14.5-inch infotainment system with an OLED display. It offers sharper visuals and now supports Dolby Atmos for the 10-speaker JBL sound system. Tata has also added a sliding armrest and external washers for the front and rear cameras.

Other features continue from the earlier models. These include a 10.25-inch digital driver display, dual-zone automatic climate control, ventilated and powered front seats, a panoramic sunroof, multi-colour ambient lighting, a wireless phone charger, and a powered tailgate.

On the safety front, there are no major changes. Both SUVs now get a built-in dashcam integrated into the inside rear-view mirror. Standard safety features include six airbags, a 360-degree camera, electronic stability control, and level-2 ADAS.

Tata has expanded the variant lineup for both models. The Harrier petrol is now available across trims ranging from Smart to the new Fearless Ultra and Fearless Ultra Red Dark variants. The Safari petrol also gets a wide range of variants, including six-seater options, with the new Accomplished Ultra and Accomplished Ultra Red Dark trims sitting at the top.

In terms of competition, the Tata Harrier rivals the MG Hector and Jeep Compass. The Tata Safari competes with the MG Hector Plus, Mahindra XUV700, and Hyundai Alcazar.
