Tata Motors has launched the new Aeris sedan in India at an introductory price of Rs 5.29 lakh (ex-showroom). The new compact sedan replaces the Tigor in the private car market and brings a completely redesigned exterior, a new cabin, more features and both petrol and CNG powertrain options.

The Aeris is available exclusively for private buyers, while fleet customers will continue to get the Xpres. Bookings for the new sedan are now open through Tata dealerships and the company’s website. Deliveries are scheduled to begin on October 11.

Tata Aeris price and variants

The Aeris starts at Rs 5.29 lakh for the base Smart petrol-manual variant. The entry price is Rs 40,000 lower than the Tigor it replaces.

The sedan is offered in five variants, with petrol and CNG options and both manual and AMT gearboxes on selected variants.

A completely new look

The biggest change over the Tigor is the exterior design. Tata has given the Aeris a more contemporary look, while retaining the distinctive notchback-style roofline.

At the front, the sedan gets a slim gloss-black grille positioned between rectangular LED headlamps. The front bumper has a more sculpted design and also incorporates LED fog lamps.

The side profile gets newly designed 16-inch alloy wheels, a shark-fin antenna and Aeris badging on the lower section of the front doors. Tata has also added wheel arch cladding, giving the compact sedan a slightly different visual character.

The rear gets a high bootlid with a roof spoiler and connected LED taillamps. The rear bumper houses the number plate and reverse lamp towards its lower section.

Tata is offering the Aeris in six exterior colours: Dandeli Drizzle, Daytona Grey, Nitro Crimson, Dune Glow, Pure Grey and Pristine White. All colours can also be paired with an optional black roof for a dual-tone finish.

Lighter cabin with more equipment

The cabin takes inspiration from the recently updated Tiago, but Tata has used a lighter beige and cream colour theme for the Aeris. The dashboard features fabric inserts and an angular design, along with a two-spoke matte black steering wheel. AMT variants also get paddle shifters.

The centre console includes rotary climate controls, a wireless charger and phone dock, a rotary gear selector and a central armrest. Rear passengers get dedicated AC vents and a centre armrest with cupholders.

The Aeris offers 419 litres of boot space.

10.25-inch touchscreen and ventilated seats

Feature equipment is one of the key highlights of the new sedan. It gets a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, paired with a six-speaker sound system.

Other available features include automatic climate control, cruise control, wireless phone charging, ventilated front seats, power-adjustable and auto-folding ORVMs, a height-adjustable driver seat, auto-dimming IRVM and keyless entry with push-button start/stop.

The sedan also gets drive modes.

Higher variants add features such as rain-sensing wipers, hill hold assist, TPMS, a dashcam, rollover mitigation and a 360-degree camera with a blind view monitor.

Six airbags are standard

Tata has equipped the Aeris with six airbags as standard. Other standard safety features include three-point seatbelts with reminders for all occupants, rear parking sensors and ISOFIX child-seat anchors.

The higher variants add electronic stability control along with the additional safety and parking-assistance features.

Petrol and CNG engines

The Aeris continues with the 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine that was available with the Tigor. Buyers can choose between a five-speed manual and a five-speed AMT.

There is also a factory-fitted CNG option, which is available with both transmission choices on selected variants.

The new Aeris therefore keeps the familiar engine choices but expands the package with a redesigned exterior, updated cabin and a longer feature list.

With its Rs 5.29 lakh starting price, the Aeris enters the compact sedan market as a replacement for the Tigor while targeting private buyers with petrol and CNG options, manual and AMT transmissions, and equipment usually expected from more expensive cars.
