Citroen has introduced a CNG option for the C3 hatchback. This makes it the brand’s first CNG model in India. But instead of offering it from the factory, Citroen is retrofitting the CNG kit at its dealerships. This kit costs ₹93,000 over the petrol variant’s price.
The CNG variants are only available with the 82 PS 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine and a 5-speed manual gearbox. The turbo-petrol variants do not get the CNG option.
Variant | Petrol Price | CNG Kit Price | Price with CNG |
---|---|---|---|
Live | ₹6.23 lakh | ₹93,000 | ₹7.16 lakh |
Feel | ₹6.48 lakh | ₹93,000 | ₹7.41 lakh |
Feel (O) | ₹7.52 lakh | ₹93,000 | ₹8.45 lakh |
Shine | ₹8.16 lakh | ₹93,000 | ₹9.09 lakh |
All prices are ex-showroom.
The CNG kit comes with a 55-litre tank and is backed by a 3-year / 1 lakh km warranty. Citroen claims a mileage of 28.1 km/kg and a driving range of up to 200 km on CNG. The company has also retuned the suspension to handle the added weight of the tank.
One nice touch is that the CNG filling nozzle is positioned next to the regular petrol cap, which is convenient and avoids the typical awkward placements seen in some aftermarket setups.
The feature list remains the same across the CNG and petrol variants. You still get a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a 7-inch digital driver’s display, auto AC, height-adjustable driver seat, and remote central locking.
Safety features include up to six airbags (two as standard), ESC, TPMS, hill hold assist, and a rear parking camera.
Here’s a quick comparison of the two engine options available with the Citroen C3:
Engine | Power | Torque | Transmission |
---|---|---|---|
1.2L NA petrol | 82 PS | 115 Nm | 5-speed manual |
1.2L turbo-petrol | 110 PS | 190 Nm (MT) / 205 Nm (AMT) | 6-speed MT / AMT |
The CNG kit is available only with the naturally aspirated petrol engine. Like most CNG cars, we can expect a slight drop in power and torque, though Citroen has not officially shared these numbers yet.
It is good to see Citroen finally join the CNG game in India. But honestly, the lack of a factory-fitted CNG variant is a bit disappointing. A dealership-level retrofit may work fine, but factory-fit would have added more trust and peace of mind for buyers.
That said, Citroen has at least ensured that the CNG version is covered under warranty and has made smart tweaks like retuned suspension and a neatly integrated nozzle. These small things do matter.
The Citroen C3 CNG will compete with other CNG hatchbacks like the Maruti Wagon R, Maruti Celerio, and Tata Tiago.
