Mahindra’s latest XUV 7XO is an exciting vehicle and brings a first-of-its-kind feature to the Indian automotive market. The new SUV is the country’s first vehicle to offer both Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos as part of its integrated in-car entertainment system. The technology has been developed in collaboration with Dolby Laboratories.
It seems Mahindra is clearly pushing the idea that modern cars are no longer just about engines and driving performance. The cabin experience is becoming just as important, and it wants to set a new benchmark for in-car entertainment.
The Mahindra XUV 7XO builds on the company’s earlier work with Dolby Atmos, which is already available in models like the BE6, XEV 9e, XEV 9S, Thar ROXX, and XUV 3XO. However, the addition of Dolby Vision takes things a step further.
Dolby Vision is designed to improve visual quality by offering higher brightness, better contrast, and a wider color range. In simple terms, it allows the car’s display to show content closer to how it was originally created. This is especially noticeable while watching movies or shows with dark scenes, vibrant colors, or high dynamic range visuals.
Dolby Atmos focuses on sound. Instead of audio coming from fixed speakers, the system creates a spatial sound environment where audio feels like it is moving around the cabin. This makes music, movies, and even dialogue feel more immersive, especially for passengers sitting in different parts of the car.
Together, Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos aim to turn the XUV 7XO into a moving entertainment space rather than just a vehicle with a screen and speakers.
Mahindra has not limited this experience to hardware alone. The company has also worked on native content integration so that users can actually use these features without extra devices.
Sony LIV is integrated directly at the system level in the XUV 7XO. This makes it the first OTT platform in India to be embedded natively into a vehicle’s infotainment system. Users can access movies, original series, live sports, and TV shows that support Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos without connecting a phone or external streaming device.
For music, Gaana has been integrated as the primary music service. Its catalog is optimised for Dolby Atmos, allowing users to experience spatial audio while driving.
This system-level integration means smoother performance, better UI optimisation, and fewer dependency issues compared to screen mirroring or phone-based apps.
By working with Dolby, Mahindra is brining technologies technologies already widely used by filmmakers, music producers, and streaming platforms around the world. The company is bringing a home-theatre-like experience into a mobile environment, without compromising on quality.
