Today Mercedes-Benz has launched new E- class diesel variant the E220d in India. The Mercedes-Benz E220d has been launched at price Rs. 57.14 lakh (ex-showroom, Pune). It has positioned just below the existing E-class variant E350d. One petrol model also comes in India E-200 at priced Rs. 56.7 lakh. E-class E350d comes at price Rs. 70.15 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi).
E-220d powered by a new 20.-litre four-cylinder diesel engine that produces power 194 bhp and 400 Nm of torque. It comes with a nine-speed automatic transmission. It replaces Mercedes 2.1-litre diesel engine and it is designed to meet Euro VI emission norms. This diesel engine is compatible to India’s BS-IV grade fuel.
The E-220d is identical to the E 350d except few small changes like new badging on the back and differently-styled alloy wheels. The Mercedes-Benz E-220d comes with LED headlamps, reclining rear seats, panoramic sunroof, ambient lighting, reverse parking camera, three zone automatic climate control, ABS, seven airbags, and stability control. But it lacks few features in comarision to E-350d like air suspension, memory function for the front seats, Burmester audio system, and the 360-degree camera.
The Mercedes-Benz E-Class LWB comes with a wheelbase of 3079 mm and is 5063 mm in length, 1860 mm in width and 1494 mm in height.
The conclusion is that the E-220d will carry almost same design and styling features of the E-350d but it seems a drop in power and performance. It also misses some comforts features as well.
Till today, Mercedes-Benz has received around 120 bookings for the E220d. The Mercedes-Benz first time launched its extended wheelbase version. The Mercedes-Benz E-Class LWB would compete against Audi A6, Jaguar XF, Volvo S90 and upcoming BMW 5 Series in India.
