Easiest Way To Apply For Driving License In India.

To drive any motor controlled vehicle in India, you need a driving license. This article tells you the easiest way to apply for a driving license.

There are many categories in which you can apply for a licence-

  • MC 50CC (Motorcycle 50cc) — motorcycles with gears and 50cc engine.
  • MC EX50CC (Motorcycle more than 50cc) — motorcycles, light motor vehicle, and cars.
  • Motorcycles/Scooters of any engine capacity, with or without gears with an engine capacity of 50cc or more (old category).
  • MC Without Gear or M/CYCL.WOG (Motorcycle Without Gear) — motorcycles, scooters without gears, all motorcycle
  • MCWG or MC With Gear or M/CYCL.WG (Motorcycle With Gear) — all motorcycles, engine capacity more than 175cc
  • LMV-NT (Light Motor Vehicle—Non-Transport) — for personal use only
  • LMV-INVCRG-NT (Light Motor Vehicle—Invalid Carriage-Non Transport) — for personal use by physically handicapped persons only
  • LMV-TR (Light Motor Vehicle—Transport) — for commercial transportation including light goods carrier.[6]
  • LMV (Light Motor Vehicle)’ — including cars, jeeps, taxis, delivery vans. (16th Apr 2018 GOI Ministry of Road Tran & Highways No. RT-11021/44/2017-MVL)
  • LDRXCV (Loader, Excavator, Hydraulic Equipment)— for Commercial application of all hydraulic heavy equipment.
  • HMV (Heavy Motor Vehicle) -a person holding an LMV driving licence can only apply for a heavy licence.
  • HPMV (Heavy Passenger Motor Vehicle)
  • HTV Heavy Transport Vehicle (Heavy Goods Motor Vehicle, Heavy Passenger Motor Vehicle)
  • TRANS (Heavy Goods Motor Vehicle, Heavy Passenger Motor Vehicle) including trailers can also drive it.

Out of these categories, the three most common categories are-

  • LMV-Light Motor Vehicle ( Minimum Age-18 years)
  • MC without gear ( Minimum Age -16 years)
  • LDRXCV– Commercial Vehicle ( Minimum Age -20 years)

There are two stages that you need to pass before getting a driving license.-

 1.Getting A learners Licence –  

There are two ways to apply for a learners license-

  1. Online
  2. Offline

Online-

To apply online, click on the following link-

Offline-

 There are three stages for getting a learners license offline-

  1. Verification of documents and forms to get your token.
  2. 2-hour First-Aid class.
  3. Payment of learner licence fees.

After you apply for the learner’s licence test(whether online or offline), you have to give Learner License Computer Based Test in your districts RTO.

     Now, 

  1. If you pass the test, you get your learners license. 
  2. If you fail the test, you can reappear for the test on the next day When you reappear for the test you will have to pay only the token fee (around ₹50). You can reappear for the test any number of times for 2 months.
  3. The learner’s license is valid for 6 months.

OR

Collect the forms from the RTO of your district. 

The self-attested copies of the following documents have to be shown at the RTO for the document verification process-

 Id/Age Proof (One)-

  • Pan Card
  • Aadhar Card
  • Birth Certificate
  • Educational certificate ( 10th Marksheet/ 12th Marksheet)
  • Passport
  • Certificate from a state/ central government if you are an employee

Address Proof (One)

  • Aadhar Card
  • Voter’s ID Card
  • Passport
  • Income Tax Statment
  • LIC policy bond
  • Ration card
  • Electricity Bill
  • Certificate obtained from a state/ central government or a local body if you are an employee of them

2.Getting Driving License-

After 30 days of getting a learners license, you can apply for a driving licence in two ways-

  1. Online
  2. Offline

Offline-

There are two stages –

  1. Verification of documents and forms.
  2. Payment of Fee.

OR

Collect the forms from the RTO of your district. 

After you complete the process (whether offline or online), you will be allotted a slot for a driving test.

Now,

  1. If you pass the test, you will get your driving license within 30 days. They give your license number there and then, which you can add to your Digi Locker( Phone App) to generate your Driving License online.
  2. If you fail the test, you can retake the test after one week.
