The mid-size SUV market in India is heating up, and JSW MG Motor is making a strong move with the launch of the MY2025 Astor. The new version starts at ₹11.30 lakh (ex-showroom) and aims to attract more buyers by offering premium features at a competitive price.
MG has added two new trims, Shine and Select, to the Astor lineup. But what makes it really stand out is that it is now the only 1.5-litre mid-size SUV to offer both a 10-inch infotainment display and a panoramic sunroof under ₹12.5 lakh. That is a big selling point in a segment where many buyers now expect these features.
The MG Astor MY2025 continues to use the VTi-TECH 1.5-litre petrol engine, which delivers a maximum power of 110 PS at 6000 rpm and a peak torque of 144 Nm at 4400 rpm. This engine is smooth and tuned for relaxed city and highway driving. It strikes a good balance between performance and efficiency.
The Shine variant is available with a 5-speed manual transmission, while the Select variant gives you the choice between the 5-speed manual and a more convenient CVT automatic. Both variants come equipped with disc brakes on all four wheels, which improves braking confidence, especially in city traffic and hilly areas.
This setup makes the Astor ideal for buyers who want a refined petrol engine with proven reliability, smooth power delivery, and the option of both manual and automatic gearboxes without compromising on safety or comfort.
MG has packed the Astor with features that are not just eye-catching but also useful for daily driving. The 10-inch infotainment touchscreen now comes standard in all variants. It offers a smooth and responsive interface, adding a premium feel to the cabin even in the base variant. The panoramic sunroof, which starts from the Shine trim, brings in more light and gives the cabin an airy feel — something that buyers love in this segment.
In the Sharp Pro variant, you also get wireless charging, which helps keep your phone powered up without messy cables. MG has added heated ORVMs, a feature not commonly found in this price range, especially in petrol-powered cars. It helps keep the mirrors clear during foggy or rainy days. The ventilated front seats provide comfort during long drives and hot summer days, while the auto-dimming rearview mirror helps reduce glare from headlights behind you at night.
For connectivity, the Astor supports wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, making it easy to access your phone’s apps without plugging it in. The updated i-SMART 2.0 system brings more than 80 connected features, allowing you to control and monitor various aspects of the car remotely. And thanks to Jio Voice Recognition, you can now use voice commands to check weather updates, listen to cricket scores, use the calculator, or get the latest news.
MG has also pushed safety to the next level. The Astor comes with 14 ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance Systems) and over 50 safety-related systems, making it one of the safest options in this segment.
The Astor competes with big names like the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara, and Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder. While these rivals offer strong sales numbers and brand value, MG is clearly betting on better features for the price to win over new customers.
The 2025 MG Astor is a strong effort from the brand to grab attention in a crowded market. In a time when most carmakers are focusing on flashy designs and gimmicky features, MG is offering real, practical upgrades that buyers actually use every day.
If you are looking for a feature-loaded 1.5-litre petrol SUV under ₹15 lakh, the Astor is now one of the most compelling options out there.
