MG Unveiled MG Astor, Introducing AI for Indian Market

The midsize SUV MG Astor has been unveiled for the Indian market. The MG Astor which is an ICE-powered version of the ZS EV is expected to be launched around the festive season.

The MG Astor comes with a personal AI-assistant and Level-2 Autonomous technology, details we wrote in the last article. The midsize SUV will get the Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) along with 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay as standard across the range, a panoramic sunroof, an electric parking brake, a seven-inch fully-digital instrument console, a six-way power-adjustable driver seat, three steering modes (Normal, Urban, and Dynamic), an engine start-stop button, front and rear arm-rest, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, an air purifier, and silver inserts for the dashboard. Three interior themes are available including dual-tone Sangria Red, dual-tone Iconic Ivory, and Tuxedo Black which customers can choose while booking the car.

The new MG Astor will get the features including LED projector headlamps with integrated LED DRLs, 17-inch dual-tone alloy wheels, a new front grille, roof rails, Astor lettering on the boot lid, red front brake calipers, halogen fog lights, rear wiper, and washer, heated ORVMs, rain-sensing wipers, LED taillights and an integrated spoiler with a high-mounted stop lamp. It also gets safety features including six airbags, HDC, traction control rear parking sensors, ABS with EBD, ESp, and a 360-degree camera.

The MG Astor be coming in two engine options – the Brit Dynamic 220 TURBO petrol engine with a 6-speed AT delivering a whopping 220Nm of torque and 140ps of power. And the other – VTi Tech petrol engine with manual transmission & an 8-speed CVT, delivering 144Nm of torque and 110ps of power.

Speaking on the unveiling of Astor, Rajeev Chaba, President and MD, MG Motor India, said, “We have introduced several industry-firsts with our SUVs to the Indian automotive market. This time we have Autonomous (Level 2), MG Astor, with a personal AI assistant. With its elegant exteriors, luxurious interiors, and futuristic technology, we believe that Astor is a desirable package that will strike a chord with the customers.”

The much-awaited mid-size MG Astor will be on display at MG showrooms from 19th September and bookings will start soon thereafter. The expected launch of MG Astor will be in the festive season. The car will compete with the rivals Maruti Suzuki S-Cross, Hyundai Creta, Skoda Kushaq, and Kia Seltos.
