Renault has launched the new Triber Turbo in India, addressing one of the biggest limitations of its popular compact 7-seater. The new version gets a 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine with significantly more power and torque than the existing naturally aspirated petrol engine.

The Renault Triber Turbo is priced from Rs 7.84 lakh (ex-showroom). It is available in the Evolution, Techno and Emotion variants, while the base Authentic variant continues to be offered only with the naturally aspirated petrol engine.

Renault Triber Turbo Price and Variants

The new turbo-petrol engine costs Rs 1.11 lakh more than the naturally aspirated petrol engine in the Evolution variant. Renault is offering the turbo engine only with a 5-speed manual transmission for now.

All prices are introductory and ex-showroom.

Renault has also opened bookings for the Triber Turbo at Rs 11,000. Deliveries are expected to begin later this month.

More Power From the 1.0-Litre Turbo Engine

The biggest change in the new Triber is its engine. The 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine produces 100 PS of power and 180 Nm of torque. In comparison, the existing 1.0-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine produces 72 PS and 96 Nm.

The turbo engine is essentially based on the unit used in the Renault Kiger, with changes made for the Triber. The higher torque output should make the MPV more responsive, especially when carrying a full load of passengers.

The naturally aspirated petrol version can also be equipped with a dealer-fitted CNG kit as an official accessory. However, the CNG option is not available with the new turbo-petrol engine.

Features Remain Mostly Unchanged

Apart from the new engine, Renault has not made major changes to the Triber. The turbo version gets the same cabin layout and feature list as the existing higher variants.

It gets an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Other features include automatic climate control, a height-adjustable driver’s seat with an armrest, a 7-inch fully digital driver’s display, all-four power windows and a wireless phone charger.

The cabin continues with a beige and grey theme, while the textured finish around the AC vents adds some visual detail. The automatic climate control uses rotary dials, while the steering wheel gets a leather-wrapped finish and audio controls.

Safety Features

The Triber Turbo also gets the same safety equipment offered on the corresponding variants of the regular Triber. The list includes six airbags, a tyre pressure monitoring system, automatic headlamps, rain-sensing wipers, front and rear parking sensors, speed alert warning and ISOFIX child-seat mounts.

The current Triber has not been tested under the latest Global NCAP protocols. The outgoing model had previously received a 4-star rating in Global NCAP testing.

Renault Triber Turbo Rivals

With the new engine, the Triber continues to target buyers looking for an affordable seven-seater, but now with a stronger focus on performance. It competes with models such as the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga, Toyota Rumion, Kia Carens, Maruti Suzuki XL6 and Kia Carens Clavis. The upcoming Nissan Gravite is also based on the same platform family.

With the turbo engine, the Renault Triber now offers a much stronger powertrain while retaining its compact dimensions, flexible seating layout and feature-rich cabin. The Rs 7.84 lakh starting price also keeps the turbo version positioned below larger seven-seater options.
