MG Motor Unveiles Hector SUV In India; Launch In June 2019

Today MG Motor showcased first time its much awaited SUV Hector in India. The all-new Hector looks big in size with the dimensions 4655mm long, 1835 mm wide and 1760 mm tall. The MG Hector SUV comes with an aggressive looking front which is dominated by a broad black mesh grille with sleek chrome angles. MG Motor also gets a new face on which the headlamp assembly is mounted in the bumper and the daytime running lights (DRLs) settled right on top, just close to the hood. The Hector looks bulky from the sides which carry up to the rear. The back of the SUV is curvaceous with a tapered windscreen to put some appeal. The gloss black plastic element falling right under the spoiler’s edge to look good.

Up front gets projector headlamps and the fog lamps are underneath. Less chrome is used but the color of plastic claddings enhanced with the paint shade. Headlamps are joined by a two-slat plastic bar below which is the wide faux-silver skid plate housing a relatively large center air-dam. Just above the break, there is a thin line of chrome and alloy wheels get a dual tone. Panoramic sunroof with silver roof rails is first in the segment. The rear is coated with a massive plastic cladding with the contrast-colored integrated silver skid plate. There’s also a sleek chrome bar above the license plate area.

The MG Hector will be available in both petrol and diesel engine. A petrol hybrid will also be available. The petrol engine is a 1.5-liter turbocharged unit which generates a max power of 141 bhp and a peak torque of 250 Nm. This petrol engine is mated to a dual clutch transmission which has been tested extensively under extreme climatic conditions globally for more than 2.6 million kilometers.

The petrol hybrid also comes with the same engine which generates the same power but it comes with a 48-volt first-in-segment mild-hybrid architecture. MG Motor is the first carmaker in India which bring 48V technology to the mass market segment. The 48V mild hybrid technology is the latest global environmentally friendly engine technology which enables enough to reduce petrol engine emissions. A 48-volt lithium-ion battery used in the car which helps to store energy to provide extra torque assistance of up to 20 Nm when required. With the key features including Regenerative Braking, Engine Auto Start-Stop, and E-Boost, the SUV provides a great driving experience with reduced emissions by up to 12 percent.

The diesel engine is a 2-liter turbocharged unit which generates mas power of 168 bhp and a peak torque of 350 Nm at 1750 rpm. The diesel and petrol hybrid will be available with a 6-speed manual transmission. As the company says, this is the company’s first internet car, which will come with a new advanced connectivity system called i-Smart next-generation system, a complete integrated solution that combines hardware, software, services, connectivity, and application. The system has been developed in collaboration with several technological partners like Unlimited, Cisco, and Microsoft. The i-Smart connectivity system comes with advanced technology, smart application, built-in Apps, Artificial Intelligence (AI), Smart Features, Voice Assist, and Infotainment.

The command center controlled by a vertically-mounted 10.4-inch ultra large Full-HD infotainment display that comes with pre-loaded entertainment content and allows to manage complete vehicle settings. The company says that the display screen is able to withstand the high temperatures of Indian weather conditions. For full-time connectivity, the system also comes with a first machine to machine embedded sim, along with the SUV Internet Protocol version 6 makes it 5G-ready, making it future-proof. The system offers features like – Real-Time Navigation, Remote Location, Geo-Fencing, Emergency Response and much more.
