Renault has unveiled a new electric concept car called the Renault 4 Savane 4X4. It was showcased at the Roland-Garros French Open tennis tournament. This new model is a tougher, off-road-ready version of the Renault 4 EV hatchback that was shown earlier. With this concept, Renault has also revived the Savane nameplate.
The Renault 4 Savane looks similar to the regular Renault 4, but it gets some changes to make it more off-road friendly. It now sits 15 mm higher from the ground and gets 10 mm wider tracks at both the front and rear. The car also rides on special Goodyear UltraGrip Performance+ tyres, fitted on stylish 18-inch Savane wheels.
The design of the Savane concept keeps the round headlamps and the enclosed black front panel. This panel has a lighting strip running around it, giving the front a sharp look. On the sides, you will see flared wheel arches and thick black side skirts. The roof is black and comes with roof rails. The rear looks similar to the regular Renault 4, but the rear bumper is now finished in glossy black. The concept is painted in a cool Jade Green colour.
The inside of the car is almost the same as the regular Renault 4 EV. There are no major changes in the layout or features mentioned.
One of the biggest upgrades is the addition of a second electric motor on the rear axle, making the Savane concept a full-time all-wheel drive EV. Renault has not revealed the exact battery capacity or power figures yet. However, it is expected to use the same 52 kWh battery pack seen in the standard version.
For reference, the standard single-motor Renault 4 EV produces 150 bhp and 245 Nm of torque. It can go from 0 to 100 km/h in 8.5 seconds. The Savane 4X4 is likely to offer more power and better performance.
It is still a concept for now, but it gives us a glimpse of what to expect from Renault in the coming years.
