Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) has suggested all vehicle owners get a high-security registration plate (HSRP) without any delay. So, it is better to get HSRP for your vehicle if you don’t already have it. As per rule, all vehicles sold before 1 April 2019 should have a high-security registration plate and color-coded stickers. Some states including Delhi have also started adding challans for not having one. If you are not sure what is High-security Number plate and how to get it, keep reading.

What is a high-security registration plate (HSRP)?

A high-security registration plate (HSRP) is a new kind of registration plate that will make a uniform pattern of displaying vehicle registration numbers throughout the country. It started back in 2012 but has only become mandatory recently. The HSRP is made of aluminum and is affixed using at least two non-reusable snap-on locks. It features a unique seven-digit laser code, a chakra hologram to prevent counterfeiting, self-destructive sticker with the engine and chassis number of your car.

High-security Number plate

HSRPs are only affixed by automobile dealers and private vendors approved by the state authorities. These plates are issued after the vehicle owner provides key information such as engine number, chassis number, etc.

The conventional and old number plates were easy to ampler and can also be changed quite easily. So, it was really a tough task for the police and authorities to track that stolen vehicle. On the other hand, HSRP’s come with non-removable snap-on locks and are also difficult to replace.

High-security number plates not just prevent vehicle theft but also help in creating a digital database of all registered vehicles. These also prevent people from having fancy number plates that aren’t easy to read from a. distance.

How to get HSRP installation?

Getting HSRP for your vehicle is really easy. You just need to visit RTO to submit the required documents and HSRP for your vehicle will be issued in 48 hours. If you do not have time to visit RTO, you can opt for the online process to submit documents. Open www.bookmyhsrp.com and submit your document. When your HSRP is ready, you can visit the authorized deader to affix the HSRP.

What is the fee to get HSRP?

All the vehicles sold in India after April 2019 come with a high-security registration plate. The cost is included in the cost of the vehicle. For all the vehicles sold before April 2019, one has to apply for HSRP online on the official website or at RTO, pay the fee.
